Power Hour: Making Minutes Count
Mon-Thu • 2 to 4pm • Youth Center
Open to Youth ages 6 to 12
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps members ages 6-12 to be more successful in school by providing homework help, tutoring, and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

The Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States to recognize the best in American spirit, and to encourage all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service, and civic participation. TRIPLE PLAY Daily Challenges
Mondays • 4pm • Ages 9-12 years
Triple Play Daily Challenges are a series of six non-competitive, challenging programs that encourage Boys & Girls Club members to increase their physical fitness. The challenges include:
• Basketball Challenge
• Jump Rope Challenge
• Invent-a-Sport Challenge
• Home Run Challenge
• Get Fit Challenge
• Walk/Run Challenge
These challenge programs are offered year-round and each challenge is divided into the following five parts: warm-up, stretches, instruction, practice and cool-down.

Torch Club
BGCA Torch Club • Mondays • 3:30-4:30pm
This club is for boys and girls ages 9-12 years and is geared to youth accomplishing activities in four core areas: service to club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation. Members are involved in activities that promote character and leadership development. Youth will plan and initiate ideas for trips, events and activities. They will set goals that help them to improve communication, leadership and self-esteem. Advisors will guide members by providing a positive place for youth to learn life skills. This club is chartered through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Torch club members are currently involved in “Project Learn”, where members read books to CDC children during the summer.

SMART Girls
Saturday • 5-6pm
The SMART Girls program encourages health, fitness, prevention and education, adoption of healthy attitudes and a lifestyle that will enable adolescent girls to develop to their full potential. Goal areas for SMART Girls are life skills, healthy eating, fitness and mentoring.
SMART Girls is a BGCA sponsored program.

4-H Photography Club
Adventures with your camera!
9-12 years • Thursday • 4pm
Participants will begin to create a portfolio of photos through communication, critical thinking and planning. Youth will learn how to use a camera with simple point-and-shoot techniques. Completion of this club can lead to opportunities to participate in local and regional exhibits.

4-H Pet Handlers Club
9-12 years • Fridays • 5pm
Participants will learn and use appropriate grooming, handling, feeding and cleaning techniques for taking care of your pet. Life skills such as planning, records keeping, sense of accomplishment and communication will lead participants to receive their pet handler’s certificate.

All youth participating in any youth center programs are required to be members. Membership entitles youth to many benefits including:

    Fit Factor is a web-based program that encourages young people to Get Up, Get Out and Get Fit! You'll see that phrase a lot around the base! You can get points for being active in a variety of ways - from team sports to household chores, you can start earning points to achieve the five Fit Factor levels. For each level you reach you earn valuable prizes! The Fit Factor levels are Energy, Strength, Agility, Adventure and Endurance.

    The Fit Factor point levels are:
    Energy 1,000 points
    Strength 3,000 points
    Agility 8,000 points
    Adventure 15,000 points
    Endurance 25,000 points
    Feel The Power 35,000 points

    You can earn up to 100 points per day by eating healthy or being active in a variety of ways. Research shows that sixty minutes of physical activity is important to live a healthy lifestyle - more than sixty minutes of physical activity is even better for you! So we listened to these experts and based our point system on this sixty-minute rule. Some activities are more strenuous so you will get more points for these than some of the other activities. The important thing to remember is that ALL activity is good for a healthy body and attitude!

    So get out and get fit and you can earn GREAT PRIZES!

    To sign up for FitFactor, youth under 12 years old must come to either Youth Center. Children under 12 years require a parent’s permission.

    Power Hour is an interactive, after-school homework assistance program for children ages 9-12 years. Power Hour work is conducted in a non-threatening and fun after-school environment using “Homework Helpers,” staff members and older students who supervise completion of a member’s homework.

    CHESS CLUB
    Fridays • 5pm • East Youth Centers • Ages 9-12yrs
    This club is open to anyone who would like to learn the game of Chess, or improve your skills.

    Pet Handlers Club
    9-12 years • Fridays • 5pm
    Participants will learn and use appropriate grooming, handling, feeding and cleaning techniques when taking care of pets. Life skills such as planning, records keeping, and communication are taught. Participants receive their pet handler’s certificate upon completion.

    Triple Play Healthy Habits
    9-12 years • Mondays • 4pm
    Healthy Habits is designed to teach youth the benefits of eating right and being physically active. Youth will begin to adopt healthier habits through fun and engaging activities. With encouragement, participants will make positive changes in their personal health choices. Lessons include information on the Kid Pyramid, snacking, fluids, cooking and the body.
